Privacy Policy

Effective date: 15 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Scanly LLC (“Scanly”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, protects, and shares personal information. It applies to https://scanly.mn and the Scanly mobile app (the “Service”).

1. Who we are

The Service is owned and operated by Scanly LLC. Website: https://scanly.mn. Instagram: @scanly.mn.

2. Scope

This Policy covers your use of the website and app, including viewing pages, downloading the app, scanning barcodes, looking up products, using history or favourites, and submitting missing products.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites, stores, or App Store / Google Play. Please read their policies separately.

3. Information we collect

We may collect or process the following categories of information to operate the Service.

  • Device information: device type, operating system, app version, language settings, and crash or technical logs needed to keep the Service working.
  • Scan data: barcodes you scan or look up, and product results. Scan history and favourites are typically stored on your device.
  • Camera: used only to read barcodes. We do not keep your camera stream or photos for advertising. If you scan from a photo, processing happens on your device for that purpose.
  • Voluntary submissions: if you send product details (name, image, ingredients, etc.), we store them for moderation and cataloguing.
  • Contact information: if you reach us by Facebook or Instagram, we use what you send to reply.
  • Usage and diagnostics: technical event and diagnostics data used for analytics and crash reporting (see Section 4).

4. Analytics and crash reporting

In the Scanly mobile app, we use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how many people use the Service (including daily active users), which features are used, and to receive crash and stability reports so we can improve reliability.

This may include device and app identifiers, operating system and app version, language, approximate timestamps, in-app events (for example scanning a product or opening a screen), and crash stack traces. We use this for product improvement and support — not to sell your data or build advertising profiles.

Google processes this data as our service provider under Google’s privacy terms for Firebase. Learn more at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.

5. How we use information

We use information to:

  • Show product scores, ingredients, warnings, and nutrition details.
  • Operate, secure, debug, and improve the Service — including usage analytics and crash diagnosis.
  • Build, review, and publish the local product catalog.
  • Comply with law and protect our rights, property, and users’ safety.

6. When we share information

We do not sell your personal information for advertising.

We may share limited information in these cases:

  • Service providers: hosting, databases, analytics, crash reporting, or support vendors (including Google Firebase), only as needed to work for us.
  • Legal requirements: lawful requests from courts or authorities, or to prevent fraud or harm.
  • Business transfers: merger, sale, or reorganization may include related data. We will notify you when reasonably possible.

7. Third-party sources and links

Product data may come from our own databases and third-party data providers. Third parties may have their own terms and privacy practices.

If you follow links to Facebook, Instagram, or other platforms, their policies apply.

8. Retention and security

You can manage on-device history and favourites by clearing app data or uninstalling the app. Server-side submissions, logs, moderation data, and analytics/crash diagnostics are kept as needed for the Service and legal requirements.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures. No internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure.

9. Children’s privacy

The Service is for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

10. Your choices and rights

You can manage device permissions (such as camera) in system settings. Some features need those permissions to work.

Uninstalling the app stops further analytics and crash collection from that installation. For questions about access, correction, or deletion of personal information, contact us through our official channels (Instagram @scanly.mn or our Facebook community). We will respond as required by applicable law.

11. International transfers

The Service may run on cloud infrastructure, including Google Firebase. Your data may be processed or stored on servers outside Mongolia. We take reasonable steps to protect it.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes may mean you accept the updated Policy. For material changes, we will try to provide additional notice.
